    For the past three decades, Kim Taek Sang has made "water" the primary medium of his painting practice, exploring the spatiotemporal structures formed by the flow and sedimentation of color, diffusion and accumulation. Through a repetitive process of pouring diluted pigment onto canvas and allowing it to dry over dozens of layers, the artist reveals the formative construction in which light, color, and matter permeate organically.
    At the SATO Sector, Johyun Gallery presents a solo show by Kim Taek Sang. Composed of works from his Flows series, the booth is installed not in the conventional wall-hanging format, but in a way that responds to the surrounding space-mirroring the way the artist's paintings themselves take form. This mode of display emphasizes that painting is not a "completed result" but an ongoing formative process unfolding here and now. Disrupting conventional modes of viewing painting, this installation repositions the painting not as a fixed object but as a responsive entity that exists within and through time.

    金澤相は過去30年以上にわたり、「水」を絵画の主要な媒介として用い、色の流れや沈殿、にじみや堆積によって生まれる時空間的な構造を探求してきた。彼は、希釈した顔料をキャンバスの上に何十回も注ぎ、乾かすという一連の反復行為を通じて、光と色、物質が自然に染み込んでいく過程を一つの形成的構築物として現している。
    本SATOセクターにて、Johyun Galleryは金澤相のソロショウを開催する。Flowsシリーズによって構成されたブース全体は、伝統的な壁掛け方式ではなく、空間と呼応するインスタレーション形式で展示されている。それは、作家の作品が生成されていく過程を模した設えであり、絵画が「完成された結果物」ではなく、「まさに今ここで進行している形成的プロセス」であることを強調している。このインスタレーションは、絵画を鑑賞するという既存の方法に亀裂を生じさせ、固定されたオブジェとしてではなく、時間の中で感応する存在としての絵画を提示する。

    Born in 1958, Seoul, South Korea
    Kim Taek Sang has been experimenting with the diffusion, sedimentation, and layering of color for over three decades through the medium of water. His process is iterative-mixing trace amounts of pigment into water, pouring the solution onto a canvas laid flat, then allowing it to dry. Repeated dozens of times, this practice is both ascetic and curative; he has come to describe it as the aesthetics of care. This delicate layering of sediment on canvas creates subtle interstices that scatter light and permeate the surface with depth and density, evoking nature's own palette of serene and understated hues. Kim describes his creations as dàamhwa (淡畵 - dàam painting), where dàam carries meanings of clear, delicate, faint, or thin in tint.
    Kim's earliest works in the early 1990s contained commentaries on socio-political issues, but he experienced an artistic turning point when he was captivated by the prismatic waters of the Yellowstone Caldera. Through this encounter, he began incorporating natural elements-water, air, light, and gravity-into his studio practice, developing a distinctive visual language that bridges materiality and the senses, concept and nature. Kim's works avoid overt contrasts, favoring elusive similarities, subtle oscillations, and minute pulses of light. While his work is discussed within the lineage of Dansaekhwa, his practice stands apart, reflecting a deeply personal exploration of the relationships between nature, humanity, medium, and perception.
    Kim holds a B.F.A. in Painting from Chungang University and an M.F.A. in Western Painting from Hongik University. His works are included in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MMCA), Kumho Museum of Art; Leeum Museum of Art, Seoul, South Korea and Suwon I'Park Museum of Art, Suwon, South Korea.
     

    金澤相は30年以上にわたり、「水」というメディウムを通じて、色彩のにじみ、沈着、重なりを探求してきた作家である。床に横たえたキャンバスの上に極少量の顔料を溶いた水を流し、乾かすという反復的なプロセスは、修行のようでありながら癒しの側面を持つ「ケアの美学」を示している。数十層にも及ぶ塗り重ねの行為は、画面上に微細な空間の層を生み出し、光を散乱させて深みと密度を与える。まるで自然が自ら描いたかのような、淡く控えめな色彩を帯びた彼の絵画を、作家は「淡畵（たんが）」と名づけている。1990年代初頭、政治・社会的メッセージを含んだ作品から出発した彼は、イエローストーン火山の火口に広がる水の色に魅了され、芸術的な転機を迎えた。その後、水、空気、光、重力といった自然の構造をスタジオに取り込み、独自の造形語法を確立。物質性と感覚、概念と自然を結ぶ絵画世界を展開してきた。明確な対比よりも、見分けが難しい類似性や揺らぎ、光の振動を捉えようとするその絵画は、単色画の系譜の中で語られつつも、自然と人間、メディウムと認識の関係を繊細に探る独自の思索の軌跡を示している。彼は韓国の中央大学校で絵画を専攻し学士号を取得、弘益大学校で西洋画の修士号を修めた。これまでに、ソウルと大邱のリャンギャラリー、東京のタグチ・ファインアートなどで個展を開催しており、作品は韓国国立現代美術館、クムホ美術館、サムスン美術館リウム、水原市立アイパーク美術館などに所蔵されている。
