When I use natural materials in their raw state, I feel as if I am drawing from nature itself—the source of the universe’s fundamental energy. These forms, before they take shape and before they enter my work, have already absorbed hundreds of millions of years, a span of time almost beyond our imagination. What we receive from nature is, in a sense, something that carries the time of the universe within it.
자연 소재를 그대로 활용한다는 것은 그 우주의 근원적인 힘의 원천이 자연으로부터 온다 하는 그런 것을 나는 느낌을 받아요. 자연석이 어떤 형성되기까지 또 그것이 내 작품에 활용되기까지는 그야말로 우리가 상상할 수 없는 수억 년의 세월을 머금은 그런 형상들이죠. 자연 속에서 우리가 얻을 수 있는 것은 그 우주의 시간을 품고 있는 겁니다.
